As I announced on The Firearm Blog, SilencerCo last week released the first "commercially viable" shotgun suppressor called the "Salvo 12." I got a chance to shoot it a bunch and it is amazing. The video below is a demo of me unloading 9 rounds from a Benelli M2 shotgun without ear protection. It's gone viral, so check it out! And here's a playlist of a few other videos: The Industry Masters is an event put on by FMG Publications (Guns Magazine, American Handgunner, and others) where industry professionals get a chance to shoot guns and have a great time. Believe it or not, a lot of industry folks don't get a chance to shoot since they are working (meetings, paperwork, travel, phone calls, more meetings, dinners, closing deals, etc). So the Masters is a great time to not only shoot, but to hang out, meet new peeps, and catch up with old friends. I was honored to shoot with Team Kimber this year, not only do they make awesome 1911s but they are great people too! You also learn a lot at these events - I had no idea Kimber made rifles, and I got a chance to shoot a Kimber 8400 bolt action in .308 with a GemTech can. What fun! We were sweltering in the heat and humidity of central Florida in the dead middle of summer, but it was still a great time shooting pistols, rifles, shotguns, and even throwing tomahawks at the Benchmade stage. This was my first time at the Industry Masters, and I can't wait to get back in 2015! Here are some more pictures from the event. My first NRA News Commentator video is now out, and I talk about how government intrusion can lead to lots of bad things. We should reduce the amount of information the government collects and retains. My videos are available at NRANews.com and on YouTube. Triple Aught Design makes some awesome apparel and gear, and if you're a fan and want to drop by their San Francisco Dogpatch base on Saturday, July 19th, they are going to have a really fun event. Details below, and you can RSVP here. My NRA Sharp Tech column for today is Part 1 of a three part series on lasers and guns. The first part is on a company called Next Level Training which makes a laser training pistol called the SiRT pistol. It is my go-to dry fire practice gun at home. You can save ammo and time spent commuting to and from the range. You can also save 10-20% by using the discount codes listed at the end of the article at: http://nrasharp.com/columns/lasers-part-1-chris/
My latest NRA Sharp article is on battery packs for your mobile devices. With our increasing reliance on mobile devices on the go, ensuring we have enough juice to last us 12 hours and beyond is becoming a tough challenge. Battery packs are one solution: http://nrasharp.com/columns/power-up-chris/ My latest post to The Firearm Blog just went up this morning. I was recently in Springfield, Massachusetts and took a tour of the historic Springfield Armory.

I hope you're spending it with friends and family, and appreciating the freedoms we have here in our country. With that, check out this awesome video of fireworks filmed by a GoPro on a drone. You get right into the action and it's awesome 1080p quality. Just a few weeks ago, Tesla Motors, known for their sleek electric cars, made an amazing announcement. They basically canceled all their patents so that anyone can utilize their technology. This open source move will help encourage competition and innovation in the space. Tesla could have held onto their proprietary secrets, but as CEO Elon Musk noted in a company blog post:
"Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal. Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology." I'm sure there are more exciting things to come from Tesla. Even though I'm not in tech anymore doesn't mean I don't still follow and care about it. One of these days, I plan on owning a Tesla!
