SilencerCo just announced a new subsidiary called "Silencer Weapons Research" which will focus on new technologies for shooters and hunters. Affordability is a key focus as well which will bode well for the masses.

This Monday at a product launch event in Key West, Florida, I'll be seeing firsthand what the new product is all about, but for now we have this awesome teaser video:

Who knew Oakley had a secret sauce?

That sauce, is technology.

Oakley invited me back down to Southern California headquarters to get some insight into how they utilized technology to develop their new "Tombstone" eyewear.

It was a real treat to meet directly with Oakley's Research & Development team to get insights firsthand, and luckily for you, I got to film it all and share it right here in the video below.

You'll learn how Oakley puts tech to good use, and see how Tombstone came to be.

Ep. 2 | Live your own Truth: Apple CEO Tim Cook comes out as gay

10/30/2014

We should live life being proud of who we are. Gun owners, gay people, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Asians, African Americans, Latinos, and whatever other things you may be.

People will try and shame you, you can expect that. But be strong in your convictions and know that there are millions of people out there who will accept you for who you are. I love embracing differences since it's what makes people interesting.

Live your own Truth.

Gun Violence, A People Problem

8/25/2014

tl;dr - Violence is a people problem. Not a gun problem, a knife problem, a car problem, etc.

Many months back I was invited to speak at a weekend symposium called Highground Hackers, an initiative backed by famed Silicon Valley entrepreneur Ron Conway and supported by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. It is a group created in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings in an effort to find technology solutions to gun violence and its causes. Programmers and educators attended this event to learn more about gun violence and what we can do to help.

Out of the 20 speakers, I was the only person representing gun owners. The title of my talk was called "Gun Violence: A People Problem" where I presented hard data and evidence that debunks the "more guns, more crime" claim. I also discussed gun culture, and not only why gun owners are so passionate about the Second Amendment, but also how there is a valid reason for civilians to own an AR-15.

Without further ado, here's my 30 minute talk, and accompanying presentation:

Chris Cheng Profile in NRA America's 1st Freedom magazine

The NRA did a profile on me and the piece is a good one. Here's some select quotes:

“I realized how welcoming the shooting community is,” Cheng said. “As a minority, I had experienced this to some extent already, but it was surprising how supportive everyone was.”

“I want diversity to be a primary component of my contribution to the shooting community and the NRA,” Cheng explained. “There are millions of normal, hardworking American gun owners of all stripes. You're always going to have people who disagree with you, and that’s fine. But gun owners should not be ashamed of owning a gun or supporting the NRA.”

Follow-up: Backing up your data

A quick follow up to my previous post, BackBlaze has a great article on their blog that talks about their data backup survey. It has some interesting insights, mostly about how often survey respondents back-up their data. Only 9% responded that they backup their data daily.

Where do you fall?

Another interesting tidbit was that surprisingly, older respondents are better data backer-uppers than younger folks.

Check out the full report at http://blog.backblaze.com/2014/06/16/seniors-are-the-kings-of-data-backup/

I'm really excited to announce a new role I have with the NRA. We've launched a new culture and lifestyle website called NRA Sharp at www.NRASharp.com. Every day you'll see new content on guns, cars, food, outdoor adventures, and my focus: technology.

My column comes out each Friday, and I'll be posting to my blog when each article goes live. My first two articles have come out 1) Preserving your data and 2) TrackingPoint and Google Glass.

At the end of each article, you'll see a number of my favorite items so that you're always living in style :)

Enjoy!
