I'm on vacation in Cape Town, South Africa but I didn't want to miss delivering you this week's big gun news. The headlines:

- What will GOP Presidential hopefuls have to say at the NRA Annual Meetings?
- Kroger's CFO rejects Moms Demand Action's request to ban open carry and conceal carry in their supermarkets nationwide
- United States Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is retiring in 2016 and endorsing anti-gunner Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to succeed him

This week's Good Guy with a Gun story is a bit controversial. Was the good guy brave, or foolish?

Finally, the Video of the Week is a fun one from National Geographic that includes the famed .44 Magnum round and water balloons. Check out this week's Second Scoop here:

The localvore movement has encouraged more responsible and healthy eating, and hipsters are leading the way in an interesting manner.

Hunting is the ultimate organic, where you know where your food comes from and you gain a respect of the animal and the environment.

I wanted to share this fascinating Slate article from a few years ago that shines a light on this hipster hunting movement.

BREAKING: Glock releases highly rumored and anticipated 9mm G43

I'm ecstatic! Following the successful launch of the G42 in .380ACP last year, many of us in the industry have been waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Today, Glock formally announced that the G43 will be released at the NRA Annual Meetings April 12-14 and will be in gun stores shortly thereafter.

As someone who is 5'9" and 150lbs and who doesn't wear baggy clothes, I've been wanting a slimline subcompact 9mm Glock for conceal carry. While the G42 is a great form factor, I personally am not a fan of the .380ACP round for self defense.

With the announcement of the G43, users like me are going to benefit from a slim form factor along with the more powerful 9mm round. I will get some hands on time with the G43 at the NRA Annual Meetings and share my findings with you here.

Here's Glock's official press release:
SMYRNA, Ga – (Mar. 20, 2015)  - Today GLOCK, Inc. announced the release of the new GLOCK single stack slimline 9mm pistol, the GLOCK 43. The G43 is the most highly desired and anticipated pistol release in GLOCKs history. Designed to be the answer to everyday concealed carry needs, the G43 is ultra-concealable, accurate, and comfortable for all shooters, regardless of hand size.

“The G43 is the most exciting product release to date because it addresses a variety of issues that many shooters face with pistols in the concealed carry category,” stated GLOCK, Inc., VP Josh Dorsey. “It will be the pistol of choice for law enforcement and civilians. The G43 sets a new standard for concealed carry pistols.”

A true slimline pistol, the frame width of the G43 is just over one inch and the slide width measures only 0.87 inch. The overall length is 6.26 inches. For those who have smaller hands, the trigger distance is only 2.6 inches, making it ideal for functionality. The single stack magazine holds 6 rounds and is the perfect concealed carry pistol for both duty and civilian use. The G43 is engineered to the same superior standards as all GLOCK pistols and the reliability instills confidence for all lifestyles.

The G43 will debut at the NRA Annual Meeting, April 10-12, 2015, in Nashville, Tenn., at the GLOCK booth (#633).  Shipments of the product will begin directly following the convention.

Boy oh boy is this week's Second Scoop filled with interesting updates. This week, I discuss the recent half-win over the ATF's AR-15 ammo ban, the continued hypocrisy of Snoop Dogg and Liam Neeson, my new #ImUnloading Campaign, and the story of Brian Aitken, a man who was wrongly jailed in 2010 for firearms violation which was overturned. He hasn't seen his seven year old son since he was born, and he needs legal help.

This week's Good Guy with a Gun segment involves an M1 Carbine with a 30 round mag. What's not to like about that!

#ImUnloading a Salient Arms Benelli M2 Shotgun

Here's another fun video of the #ImUnloading Takeover campaign. I'm shootin nine rounds out of the 12 gauge Benelli shotgun, modified by Salient Arms.

I've called out shooters Julie Golob, Gabby Franco, and Dustin Ellermann to make their own #ImUnloading videos!

To participate, it's similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and really easy to join the cause:
  1. Create a video of you "unloading" your magazine/tube/gun in whatever fashion you like.
  2. Post it to your favorite social media platform, and make sure you include the hashtag #ImUnloading.
  3. Call out a friend or three to make their own #ImUnloading video.

The response to the #ImUnloading Takeover Campaign has been great so far!! Many of you thankfully understood the dry humor in the first video, and this second one is very similar.

I'm calling out world champion shooter and First Family of Shooting member Jerry Miculek, to show us his #ImUnloading video!

Head to the range this weekend, and make your own #ImUnloading video!

Taking Over the #ImUnloading Campaign

3/12/2015

Picture
As I discussed in this week's episode of The Second Scoop, this new #ImUnloading campaign is led by former rapper and purveyor of gun violence, Snoop Dogg. The campaign is encouraging people to divest their 401Ks of holdings in the firearms industry. It's illogical, and pointless. Snoop Dogg and friends are blaming firearms deaths on gun manufacturers, instead of the people pulling the triggers.

Here's the campaign video:
One of my fans had an idea, let's take over the #ImUnloading hashtag with our own campaign.

To participate, it's similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and really easy to join the cause:

  1. Create a video or picture of you "unloading" your magazine/tube/gun in whatever fashion you like.
  2. Post it to your favorite social media platform, and make sure you include the hashtag #ImUnloading.
  3. Call out a friend or three to make their own #ImUnloading video or picture.

Here's my first #ImUnloading video (I couldn't get to the range today, but I will be making a few #ImUnloading vids with live fire soon):
So get to the range and make your own #ImUnloading video for everyone to see!

I'll post some of the good #ImUnloading videos and pictures I see on my blog. Let's have fun with this!

The Second Scoop: Snoop Dogg's Anti-Gun Hypocrisy in #ImUnloading, Gun Ownership Down, NRA on the Obama AR-15 Ammo Ban

3/10/2015

[Check out the new Second Scoop logo and animated intro!]

This week's episode of The Second Scoop ramps up with action from Snoop Dogg joining the anti-gun camp in a 401K divestment campaign called #ImUnloading. I find it super hypocritical that a guy who promoted gun violence in his music and made millions off of it is now blaming gun companies for gun deaths. I'm sure Snoop's music played no role.

Here's another ridiculous example of blaming the tool and not the person. If we take drunk driving deaths, do we blame the alcohol or the car manufacturer for the deaths? Of course not. I don't understand how gun companies should be held responsible for the actions of individuals, particularly when the gun industry speaks out against the illegal use of firearms.

The Washington Post reports on a study showing the while gun ownership has declined, gun rights is at an all-time high.

The NRA's Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre appeared on Lou Dobb's show to discuss the Obama AR-15 ammo ban, and we have one more week to submit comments to the ATF to tell them this ban is a worthless idea. Please invest 15 seconds to fill out this simple form and contact your elected officials: www.NRAILA.org/STOPBATFE.

Finally, this week's Good Guy with a Gun segment brings us yet another successful self-defensive use of a gun story.

Stop the Obama AR-15 Ammo Ban

3/5/2015

In many ways, this was predictable. Obama has said on multiple occasions that he will bypass Congress at every turn in order to get things done. This is a result of his inability to negotiate with Republicans and get things done. Sure the Republicans are fighting him on almost everything, but what exactly was Obama thinking, that he'd say something and everyone would just say "sure, let's do it!"

The ATF has proposed banning "green tip" M855 ammo, which they are trying to classify as "armor piercing" and a threat to law enforcement. How many crimes have been committed with green tip ammo?

Zero. ZERO. 0. 00. 000. It's all the same no matter how it's spelled out.

It's your typical solution in search of a problem. Green tip is cheap and common since the steel core costs less than lead and other metals. This ammo ban is a way to basically jack up the price of other ammo, thereby making it more expensive and more difficult for folks to shoot their guns.

I made a video below if you'd like to hear more, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, head to www.NRAILA.org/STOPBATFE and contact your elected officials to put a stop to this ban.
