Who's going to win Top Shot Season 5: All-Stars?

This Wednesday is the season finale of Top Shot Season 5: All-Stars. It has been a fantastic season where we've seen little drama in the form of bickering between competitors, and much, much more sportsmanship throughout the entire season. With the elimination of the Nomination Range, Top Shot is now a shooter's TV show.

One of these competitors will soon join me and Top Shot Champions Iain Harrison, Chris Reed, and Dustin Ellermann, and his world will become awesome overnight.

CHRIS CERINO

An O.G. from Season 1, a fan favorite who came in second place to Season One champ Iain Harrison. Cerino is an amazing shot, and we've not only seen his skills on display during Season 1, but in this All-Star Season Cerino has been on fire. He's made it to the Final Four twice now, and many fans are rooting for him to clench the title this time around.

Picture
BRIAN ZINS

Brian "Gunny" Zins is the 12-time NRA Pistol Champion, the most times any shooter has won that title. Could this amazing shooter from Season 2 take it all? Not only is Zins a fantastic shot, but he's also a nice guy with a great laugh and personality. I think the only thing that could get in the way of Zins run for the title is if the FN FAL rifle makes it way back. This is the same rifle that gave Zins trouble in both Season 1, and again in Season 5. Zins finished in second place to Season 2 champ Chris Reed.

PHIL MORDEN

From Season 3, Morden is a competitive 3-gunner who has been very consistent this season. Phil finished 6th in his respective season, when he was eliminated by Mike Hughes, who was brought back to life following the resignation of former Navy SEAL Jake Zweig. Mike made it all the way to the final challenge where he fell short against Season 3 champ Dustin Ellermann. It makes you wonder if Phil hadn't been beaten by Mike, could Phil have gone up against Dustin in the finale?

GARY QUESENBERRY

Another Season 3 competitor, Gary made it into the Final Four just like Zins and Cerino. Gary was eliminated in the "Choose Your Shot" challenge at the bar, where he just barely missed his pistol shot at a jam jar at 50 feet. I'm sure that shot has stuck with him for years, and he's been itching for redemption. Gary has mentioned a few times this season that staying focused in the moment is one of the key aspects to winning. I can definitively say that I agree with him. Will Gary be able to stay focused in the moment, while also keeping his eye on the prize?

So there you have it, the Final Four competitors for Season 5. In their respective seasons, three of them made it to the Final Four, and two of them finished in second place. The final episode of Top Shot will feature some really difficult challenges, and you're in for a really fun ride seeing who will win the $100,000, a Tahoe Q5i speed boat, and the title of "Top Shot."

Who do you think will win it all and why? Share your thoughts below in the comments.

The Top Shot Season 5: All-Stars season finale airs tomorrow, Wednesday August 28th at 10PM EST on The History Channel. If you have a satellite feed, you can catch the East Coast feed which is what I'll be doing here in California.

Don't forget to stay off social media until you've watched the final episode. Nothing like reading a Facebook/Twitter post to spoil things!

Google Glass and Guns

As reported by The Firearm Blog, precision-guided rifle maker Tracking Point has posted an interesting picture of Google Glass, implying that it will somehow be integrated into a Tracking Point system.

If you're not familiar with Tracking Point, check out this article, as well as this video:

The Tumblr caption notes "TrackingPoint Labs: Google Glass HUD." A "HUD" is a "Heads Up Display" that contains useful information such as a reticle, temperature, wind speed, and other data.

TrackingPoint has been a controversial company, with some critics noting how it would take the challenge out of hunting, and thereby raising some ethical issues. Other critics fear that the rifle could take an untrained person, and empower them to kill people at long ranges.

Supporters see a technology that will help protect soldiers whose lives could be saved by placing more accurate shots out in the battlefield.

Having worked at Google, I find it interesting that guns are mostly still "dumb" inert pieces of metal that really haven't been affected by technology. However, we have been seeing more smartphone apps over the past few years, and TrackingPoint is definitely leading the field in provocative, paradigm-shifting products.

Disruptive technology such as Uber, Square, and the iPhone have had both its supporters and critics, and just like all tech products we'll see if TrackingPoint survives or not.

What are your thoughts about the TrackingPoint? Good idea? Scary idea? Boring idea? Please feel free to share in the comments below.

Glasgow, Montana - Professional shooter and author Julie Golob has joined the elite ranks of National Rifle Association's Action Pistol Distinguished Badge holders. After winning her third NRA Bianchi Cup Women's Championship, Golob is one of just four women who have earned Distinguished status in the sport of Action Pistol.

Arguably one of the most challenging handgun shooting sports in the world, NRA Action Pistol competition consists of four courses, the Barricade, Practical, Moving Target and the Plates. Golob is no stranger to the winner's circle at the sport's premiere event, the NRA Bianchi Cup where she has set an NRA Action Pistol Women's National record on the Moving Target, earned Military and Women's Shoot Off Champion Titles four times each and has hoisted the coveted Women's Championship Cup three times.

Rocky Mountain 3-gun match

I just came back from my first time shooting the 2013 Rocky Mountain 3-gun match, sponsored by JP Enterprises and many others. Held at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico, it was 9 stages of fun shooting over three days.

Competing at 7,000 ft above sea level was an extra special challenge that really went to show how not in shape I was. Competitors were getting extra winded running through stages, and rifle scope reticles were flying all over the place due to extra heavy breathing.

However, it was a ton of fun. New challenges, both physical and mental, presented themselves throughout the 3-day match. You'll see in a few videos below how I lost track of certain targets which slowed me down. Fighting through exhaustion and dehydration is another challenge exacerbated by 7,000 ft elevation.

Overall, I ended up middle of the pack, which isn't where I want to be, but for my 4th 3-gun match it's not an unexpected place. Some of the other pros were telling me that it really takes most people two solid years of 3-gun matches to even start to break into the top.

The people I met though are once again, a highlight of the trip. I saw the First Family, The Miculeks, again and we had dinner together where I met a few new friends, namely Scott McGregor and Bruce Piatt. Both are well known in the industry, and Bruce in particular is a giant in the industry who has been shooting for multiple decades, and has won numerous matches. I also made friends with top 3-gunner Kalani Laker who's a really nice guy. James Casanova is another top ranked shooter who I have seen many times throughout the year so far, and we always take some time to catch up. Additionally, there are even match directors and stats people from other matches who I now see as well. So it's a traveling circus of sorts where you get to see many of the same people, which has been a lot of fun.

Here's some footage of me shooting the match!
